Feedback and new ideas 2 and manifesto

below are some more images of how the new ideas could be incorporated into the design and become more integral to the design 


the images below show the movable facade pane that can be hinged to catch the sun as they will be made up of solar panels.




Manifesto - 
With the center being the climate change and renewable energies center it needs have very little impact on the environment or the climate and utilize renewable energies .
technology's to be incorporated to the design will be
  • solar panels
  • Trigeneration of power
  • utilization of all water 
  • recycling of water 
  • passive design elements suited to Canberra
  • zero carbon emmisoisns or offset with trees to lock in carbon
  • along with any ther developments in sustainable building - this is where the flexiblity if the design allows for the fittting of new techologyies with little effort.
the climate change and renewable energies center is to be the flagship for Australia in sustainable building practices. and it will allow people to see what can be accomplished and show how it will be incorpetated into future homes and buldings. 


Feedback and Updates to design

From the presentation I received some great feedback on elements that could  improve or be changed in the future of the design.
some small things like simply sloping the top side of the modules to improve water drainage and also enable the water to be collected and used within the sit .

another suggestion was to make the modules hexagonal like he information facade and they could be pulled through the facade the other way much more easily and with less fuss and allows the other side to be much more landscaped . another idea is to make the spine wall flexible too like building blocks as shown in  the sketch above

above are some ideas of how larges the modules could be and how they might link. and also looking at the spaces that could be used to store the hvac lighting and other systems. 

the above sketch shows the ways in which the modules could be added to or changed over time. and they would all be integrated with the other and act in symbyosis. also moving the front support in towards the middle of the design softens the brutal nature of the columns from that elevation.

since this is a climate change and renewable energies center it was argued that it should completely embody and uphold the values of a sustainable and renewable energies manifesto that is focused on . and the sketch above shows the solar panels on the norther facing surfaces and the heat ex changers on the southern side for hotter weather.

Week 14

Below are some rough 3d spatial plans giving an idea of  scale to the building.
following a general brief of

  • offices 2000m2 - to accomidate approx. 100 worksations / offices
  • 600-1000m2 exhibition / lectures space
  • 200m2 for admin building management etc
  • 900m2 for flexible research space that can be open or closed to the public and showcase some more interactive experiments.
these sizes are approximates and also incorporate some amenities and services.

Progress weeks 9-13ish

Wrapping all the weeks ive missed posts for into one larger post this week.

continuing on from my other post here are some scans

these were some initial ideas for the space layouts. rather symmetrical and uninteresting. and continuing the ideas of the other buildings around the area.

more of the possible space planing for the ground level with some slight variations.

taking in the feedback from Brant about the design possibly being too simple and regular and pointing out that there could be a great connection / flow between Questacon and the old parliament house museum and also with a main through fare  through Canberra on the western side of the block. it could be a good idea to incorporate something into the facade. some thing that links to the use of the building. 

Beginning  to look at how to approach the site in terms of design, I deciced to create a wall on the western side of the side which would act like a  spine for the building and the spaces could be moved around if needed.  I also began looking at a building from as it need to make a statement. i started with a rectangle that had "sunk" in to the site and expanded from there. This also forms the external wall and creates an interesting  focal point for the area.

also expanding on the idea of the wall having a message to put across and also giving an idea of what happens within the building. As the building is a center for climate change an renewable energies i began to think about the ideas that surround it  and the global temperature and water level came to mind. so this information would be incorporated into the exterior through lighting that could show what the water level might be if nothing is done to curb climate change or the world temperature if nothing is done. these could alternate and the larger panels could contain text like a billboard.

in the above sketch there was also the idea of a movable crane that could change out the modules  when needed. but a portable crane will be able to satisfy the flexibility needed by the modules.

The above sketch is exploring how the levels will work and  how the stairs might function. the major elemet will also be the flexible ground floor that can move up and down to create a lecture theater or be an exhibition space for the centers work.

Above are some more sketches of the  design along with some possible ideas for the modules also being flexible in the floor area that is provided. and can easily be slotted into place with little fuss
